Remote training for endurance sports

Endurance sport is demanding. Triathlon is a clear example: swimming, cycling and running together take careful planning and steady discipline. Remote coaching is one way athletes now organise that work.

Flexibility. Sessions fit a busy diary, without coordinating pool, track and road times.

A certified coach. Online platforms and tracking apps make that coaching available wherever you live.

A personal plan. The programme follows your goals, your fitness and your constraints.

Time and money. Travel and club memberships drop out of the equation.

Motivation. Tracking, a peer community and a coach to report to help keep the work consistent.

Practical points. Stay in regular contact and report how sessions actually went. Learn the tools you already use: GPS watch, heart-rate or power sensors, training apps. Set clear goals with your coach. Stay ready to adjust for injury, illness or a change of calendar.

Remote coaching is a way to train properly from wherever you are, for a race or simply for the pleasure of it. Updated 14 February 2024.
